In a monumental move just hours ago, Devers third baseman turned relegated DH for the Boston Red Sox gets traded to the San Francisco Giants. Devers a center piece of the Red Sox organization still had an 8 year contract which the Giants agreed to buy out. The number? Upwards of $250,000,000.
The trade seems like a stunner given Devers is a vital cog to the Red Sox lineup and an imposing bat, one that was contracted up to 2033. This move happened just minutes before the series closer between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants got under way.
In an even more wild turn of events Kyle Harrison, starting pitcher for the Giants who was set to take the mound today was part of this trade for Devers. Harrison was sent to the Red Sox, leaving relief pitcher for the Giants Sean Hjelle to take his place as ‘starter’ for this game. Harrison was sent along with starting pitcher Jordan Hicks, number 13 prospect James Tibbs III and minor league pitcher Jose Bello in the deal.
